Data Limitations

In short: data can be delayed, incomplete, or wrong; coverage varies by plan, provider and region; and anything labelled demo or sample is never live market data. Always weigh a read against its freshness label.
1. Sources and third parties
BYP combines data from third-party providers and, for some assets, direct exchange feeds. We do not control those sources. Their data may contain errors, gaps, or delays, and their availability and terms can change. See our data sources page for how modes and labels work.
2. Delayed vs. real-time
Depending on your plan, provider, and region, quotes may be delayed rather than real-time. Delayed data is labelled as such. On the Free plan, most quotes are delayed while live crypto is available via a connected exchange; real-time coverage across more assets is a paid-tier feature.
3. Demo and sample data
DEMO mode makes no external data calls and presents only sample data for exploring the interface. Sample and demo data are always labelled and must never be interpreted as live market information or as evidence of any real result.
4. Coverage gaps
Some instruments, histories, or fields may be unavailable. Where coverage is missing, BYP is designed to show that honestly (for example, an "insufficient" or "unavailable" state) rather than substituting sample data presented as live.
5. Corporate actions and adjustments
Historical data may or may not be adjusted for splits, dividends, or other corporate actions depending on the source. Backtests and analyses built on such data inherit these limitations.
6. Backtests and models
Analyses that rely on historical or modelled data — including backtests, risk metrics, and scenario analyses — are hypothetical and subject to the limitations of their inputs. Past or modelled results do not guarantee future results. See the research disclaimer.
7. Not for redistribution
Market data provided through BYP is for your personal research use. You may not redistribute, resell, or scrape it except as expressly permitted by us and the relevant data providers.
8. No warranty
Data is provided "as is" without warranty of accuracy, completeness, or timeliness. To the extent permitted by law, BuildYourPocket is not liable for losses arising from data errors, delays, or gaps.
